About & Methodology

This site lists UK firms that arrange mortgages, organised by town. It is a discovery tool, not a regulatory record — read this page before relying on any listing.

Where the data comes from

Company names, registered addresses, and business classification (SIC) codes are taken from the Companies House Free Company Data Product, a free monthly snapshot published by Companies House under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Companies House data is Crown copyright.

Companies House classification (SIC) codes can't tell a mortgage broker from an insurance agent or a payments company, so a code on its own never gets a company listed. We start from active companies with a financial intermediation code (such as 66190, 66220 and 64999) and list one only when there is evidence it arranges mortgages: its own website, matched to the company by the Companies House number shown on it, mentions mortgage services; or "mortgage", "home loans" or "equity release" is in its registered name and it has filed accounts. Each listing says which. Of about 40,000 companies with those codes, only a few thousand meet this test.

What this site does NOT tell you

We do not check whether a listed company is currently authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), or hold any specific permission such as advising on or arranging regulated mortgage contracts. Only firms on the Financial Services Register with an active relevant permission may lawfully carry out that activity in the UK. Every listing links directly to a pre-filled search on the FCA's own register — use it before contacting or engaging any firm.

Why we don't show FCA status directly

The FCA's website terms say: "You must not use data from this site to provide a data feed to any comparison table or any other website without our written permission" (FCA legal terms, 3.4). Its paid Register Extract Service licences for compliance and own-business use don't allow the data to be shared either. So we don't copy authorisation status or permissions from the Register: every listing links to the FCA's own search instead. Where a broker profile shows a Firm Reference Number, it is the number the firm publishes on its own website.

Accuracy and requesting a correction or removal

Data reflects a monthly Companies House snapshot and may be out of date — a company may have since closed, changed name, or moved address. If you are listed here and want a correction, or want your company removed, email contact@mortgagebrokerslist.co.uk and we will action it promptly.

Not financial advice

Nothing on this site is financial, legal, or professional advice, and listing does not constitute a recommendation or endorsement of any company. Always verify a firm's regulatory status and seek independent advice before making financial decisions.
